Steps to publishing with Nordik Academia

From manuscript to finished book

Once you have submitted your typescript to your editor, it’s time for us to turn it into a book. Your book will usually be published 9 months after submission, unless it is a particularly complicated project. Your desk editor will look after your book throughout the production process. Our desk editors are based in-house and take your book through copy editing, proofing, typesetting and indexing (where appropriate). Your desk editor will liaise between you, the copy editor and the typesetter to ensure a smooth, efficient production process.

Copy editing

Copy editing usually takes 4 to 6 weeks. Once your manuscript has been handed over to production, your desk editor will introduce you to your copy editor. Your copy editor will contact you directly with any queries as they work through your manuscript.

Proofs

Once your copy-edited manuscript has been typeset, we'll send you your proofs as a pdf. This is usually around 5 months after submission. We’ll be in touch with the exact schedule closer to the time. You’ll see up to two sets of proofs before we progress to print.

Index

Work on the index starts during the first proof stage, when we have page numbers to work with. If you are compiling your own index, we have created some guidelines to help you.

Your book cover

Your cover image will be sent to our designers to be transformed into the final front cover. Your commissioning editor or assistant commissioning editor will be in touch to agree the book description for the back cover soon after you have submitted your manuscript and forms. Closer to the publication date, you’ll see a proof of the full cover – front, back and spine – to check over for any errors.
